What does breast implant surgery involve?

Breast implant

When it comes to insecurities, almost everyone has one or even many. For women, it’s not unusual to have insecurities about their breasts. In many cases, women are unhappy with their natural breast size and shape causing them to learn how surgery can possibly improve their breasts. This may be common for women whose breasts have been impacted by pregnancy or the natural yet unwanted changes that come with age.

When this occurs, women may begin looking into getting a boob job. The technical term for a boob job is Miami breast augmentation surgery. There are many ways the breasts can be augmented but this usually is accomplished with breast implants. Patients may go for a silicone implant or saline implant with the most popular implant being the silicone implant. Though the surgery may simply seem like the surgeon inserting the implants, there’s more to the procedure than that.

Breast augmentation surgery consultation

A breast augmentation surgery is dependent on the patient. During a free consultation, the patient and surgeon will discuss the patient’s goals and how a breast augmentation surgery can help. Breasts come in different shapes and sizes so it’s important for the surgeon to evaluate the patient’s breasts to properly plan the procedure. Though the surgery isn’t exactly the same for everyone, there are common steps that surgeons tend to take when performing the surgery.

Breast Augmentation Procedure Steps

First, the patient is put under anesthesia. Some surgeons use intravenous sedation while others use general anesthesia. Not only does the anesthesia numb the patient so they don’t feel the process of the surgery, but it also is what puts the patient asleep. Based on the anesthesia, some patients are awake during surgery while others are asleep.

Once the anesthesia is in effect, the surgeon will make incisions on the chest that are dependent on the changes the patient wants. These incisions are usually placed beneath the breast or around the areola to prevent visible scarring. Once the incision is made, the implants are placed directly beneath the breast tissue. Afterward, the incisions are closed using sutures, stitches, or surgical tape.

Following the surgery, the patient will be given post-operative instructions to ensure a safe recovery process that will warrant the best results.
