This Textured Breast Implant is Getting a Recall
The world of cosmetic surgery is always going through changes as we find new and better ways to perform procedures and ensure their safety and efficacy. This sometimes means pulling an entire product or practice from active use, as demonstrated by the latest development in the field.
Textured Breast Implants
Recently, Dublin-based company Allergan initiated a complete recall of a certain kind of textured breast implant after evidence surfaced that this particular implant is linked to an increased risk of developing a cancer known as breast-implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma. The FDA has stated that the risk these textured implants pose is approximately six times greater than similar types of implants.
Breast Implants and Cancer
The evidence of the link between the implant and cancer is still fairly scant.
It is important to note that on the whole, evidence of the link between the implant and cancer is still fairly scant. The implant has been used in surgeries for hundreds of thousands of women, however fewer than 500 cases have emerged in which the Allergan implant is believed to be the culprit. At this time, the FDA has ordered the recall as a precautionary move. Women who have the implant but have not developed any adverse symptoms are advised to forgo removal since the removal process itself carries some degree of risk with it.
What does this mean for our patients here at Seduction Cosmetic Center?
So, what does this mean for our patients here at Seduction Cosmetic Center? For those who have not received treatment at any other clinic, you’ve got nothing to worry about. We do not use Allergan textured breast implants here at Seduction, as they are typically used in reconstructive surgery for cancer patients. If you have undergone a breast implant operation elsewhere, you might consider calling the clinic to verify what kind of breast implant was used. This will help in the unlikely event that you do begin to develop worrying symptoms.
