Recovery Time for Breast Augmentation

Recovering From Plastic Surgery Breast Augmentation

Cosmetic surgery is popularly known for helping patients regain their confidence in their body. Even for patients who are already confident in themselves, there are surgeries that can boost their confidence even further. Though patients should be realistic about their expectations, breast augmentation surgery can successfully enlarge the breasts and give flatter chested individuals the breasts they desire.

Breast augmentation surgery

Also known as a boob job, breast augmentation surgery is an enlargement surgery that utilizes breast implants to increase the size of the breasts. There are different types of implants with the popular implants being a silicone implant and a saline implant. A silicone implant surgery involves the surgeon making incisions around the breast to insert the implant which is filled with a silicone substance to mimic natural fat.

Saline implant

A saline implant surgery is a little different. The surgeon makes incisions in the breasts and inserts the implant as a doctor would do with a silicone implant. However, the saline implants are placed in while empty then filled with sterile salt water. This gives the surgeon more control of the patient’s results. Though these implants have differences in procedure, they both have similar recovery processes that potential patients should be aware of before committing to the surgery.

Recovery process

During the recovery process, patients will wrap their breasts in gauze dressings and/or an elastic bandage to minimize swelling. They also may wear a support bra which can provide the support needed for the breasts to heal properly. In some cases, patients will keep their breasts bandaged while others may have to clean the incision site or apply ointment. This is dependent on the surgeon’s instructions (profesional plastic surgery Miami).

Patients are encouraged to take things easy while recovering to avoid unnecessary bleeding. Patients may also experience some pain that should subside in five days or less following the surgery. However, swelling and soreness may be experienced for a few weeks.

Post-operative instructions

It’s important for patients to follow the post-operative instructions they were given to know exactly when they can resume normal or strenuous activity.
